Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel and Union Ministers perform groundbreaking ceremony for Micron’s Semiconductor Plant at Sanand GIDC

*Gandhinagar : Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel performed the groundbreaking ceremony for Micron’s Semiconductor Plant in Sanand in the presence of Union Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw and Union MoS Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar.

During his address, Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel stated, “As a result of the benchmark set by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the plant could be completed within 90 days of the MoU signing. The Prime Minister’s successful visit to the United States has yielded the construction work of a semiconductor chip manufacturing plant by Micron, which has begun in Sanand today.”

The Chief Minister mentioned the successful organization of the G20 Summit and expressed that due to the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, there is consensus on all issues of the Delhi Declaration. In addition, the African countries have been included in the G20. He stated that India has the necessary infrastructure for industries and provides an ‘Ease of Doing’ environment. Various countries are willing to invest and manufacture in India due to the will and zeal of the Indian youth. He emphasized that India has become sustainable and scalable under the leadership of the Prime Minister.

The CM emphasised that Gujarat is taking a major step in the semiconductor sector on completion of two decades of the Vibrant Gujarat Summit. The Chief Minister celebrated the groundbreaking ceremony of Micron’s plant in Sanand as a historic event. To mark the completion of 20 years of the Vibrant Gujarat Summit, it will be celebrated as the ‘Summit of Success’ in the presence of the Prime Minister.

Theme of the Vibrant Summit, which is to be held in January 2024, is ‘Gateway to the Future’.

The Chief Minister said that the MoU signed between Micron and the government has been concluded within three months with this groundbreaking ceremony.

This momentum is only possible in Gujarat because Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has established a benchmark of proactive policy, good governance, single window clearance system, and a favourable environment for industries, with Gujarat being a policy-driven state.

The Chief Minister expressed confidence that with the commencement of the Micron plant, Gujarat will become a hub for semiconductor and chip manufacturing. The Micron plant is the beginning of becoming ‘Atmanirbhar’ in the semiconductor sector. He stated that this plant will create over 20,000 jobs in the near future. Additionally, the development of global-level infrastructure in the vicinity of Sanand will also take place.

The Chief Minister highlighted that the state government is working hard to realize the Prime Minister’s vision of ‘Atmanirbhar India through Atmanirbhar Gujarat’.

He continued that Gujarat is determined to move forward in the direction of the Prime Minister’s goal of making India a five trillion-dollar economy during the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Kaal’. The state is poised to become a leader in the semiconductor sector. The Chief Minister also expressed his resolve to prepare for new technologies and sectors in the coming time.

Union Minister for Information Technology and Railways Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, mentioned, “Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has assured the youth a bright future through the construction of this plant.” Talking about India’s progress in the last 9 years, he stated that in 2014, the manufacturing of mobile phones was 17,000 crores, which has increased 22 times to 3.65 lakh crores, and the export of mobile phones was 7,000 crores initially, which has increased 13 times and reached 91,000 crores. Electronic manufacturing was initially 1.90 lakh crores, which has now reached 8.30 lakh crores.

Shri Vaishnaw added that the commencement of construction within 90 days of the MoU signing is the speed of Double Engine Government of Gujarat. He also stated that through the establishment of this plant, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has provided a guarantee to make India a hub for semiconductor manufacturing in the near future. In addition to connecting Sanand with Ahmedabad-Jamnagar Vande Bharat Express, he announced to connect Sanand with world-class rail connectivity in the near future.

Union MoS Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar said, “India is creating new benchmarks every day under the leadership of the Prime Minister. It is a matter of great pride for everyone for the launch of the new state-of-the-art Parliament building, the Women’s reservation bill, and the sale of iPhone 15 that are manufactured domestically. India is now in the league of semiconductor manufacturing nations with the groundbreaking ceremony of the Mircon plant.

 

It is important to note here that the American chipmaker will establish a plant for the production of semiconductor and microprocessing chips with an expenditure of ₹22,516 crores, in a phase-wise manner. Several important documents related to the contracts were exchanged today in the presence of the CM and Union Ministers.

 

Chief Secretary Shri Raj Kumar, Secretary of Department of Science and Technology Mr. Vijay Nehra, Senior Vice President of Micron Mr. Gursharan Singh, CEO of Tata Projects Mr. Vinayak, newly appointed employees of TATA and Micron and various invited guests were present during the event.
