Mumbai: Hollywood actor Tom Cruise made a dramatic entry at the Cannes Film Festival 2022 on Thursday, May 19, 2022.

Day 2 of the prestigious festival saw leading actors Tom Cruise and Jennifer Connelly from upcoming Hollywood film Top Gun: Maverick, make a dramatic helicopter entry.

The actors arrived for the high octane premiere and when the entire cast gathered for a photo-op at the premiere, eight fighter jets zoomed above the event, expelling the red and blue smoke to resemble the colours of the French flag.

While the actor and the film were the biggest eye-catchers at the Cannes this year, it was the 6-minute standing ovation that made the premiere special and moved the cast, especially Cruise, to tears.

Cruise said about the ovation at the event, “They all worked so hard to bring this to the big screen, and it’s a dream to be here. I’m never going to forget this evening.”

He was also honoured with a surprise Palme d’Or later and the visibly speechless actor accepted the award with a ‘Wow’, as the audience stood up for another standing ovation- perhaps a rare moment when an actor received multiple standing ovations prior to the screening of a film.

Palme d’Or is the highest prize awarded at the Cannes Film Festival. Cruise was joined by his cast mates from Top Gun: Maverick that included actors Jennifer Connelly, Miles Teller, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Jay Ellis, Danny Ramirez, Greg Tarzan Davis, Lewis Pullman and others.

Director Joseph Kosinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer were also present at the event. Top Gun: Maverick will release in theatres worldwide on May 25, 2022
