BSE: Sensex rises over 1200 points

Mumbai: The Sensex has risen over 1,200 points, while the Nifty has risen to 16,640 points ahead of the assembly election results. The Sensex and Nifty stock market indexes both gained as investors expressed optimism ahead of the results of five state assembly elections, including Uttar Pradesh.

The stock market went up on Thursday, as the results of assembly elections in five states, including Uttar Pradesh, are expected to be announced today.

The Sensex gained 2.30 percent, or 1,261.59 points, to 55,938.92, while the Nifty 50 gained 2.00 percent, or 340.50 points, to 16,700.85.

The bank index, financial services index, and auto index were among the biggest gainers on the Nifty, each climbing more than 3 percent. Tata Motors gave the Nifty 50 the biggest lift, rising over 7 percent.

As anticipated diplomatic talks between Russia and Ukraine boosted mood, Asian stocks gained on Thursday, matching Wall Street’s gains.

At the closing, the blue-chip NSE Nifty 50 index was up 2.07 percent to 16,345.35, with most of its main sub-indices in positive territory. The S&P BSE Sensex increased by 2.29 percent to 54,647.33 points.
