Mumbai: Director James Cameron screened footage from the upcoming sci-fi Hollywood film, Avatar 2 at the CinemaCon 2022 on Thursday, April 28, 2022. The film will release on December 16, 2022.

Cameron also revealed the title of the most-awaited sequel. Viewers were provided 3D glasses for the screening of Avatar 2: The Way of Water. The film provides a glimpse at the visual benchmarks set by Cameron.

The footage showed different regions of Pandora and had shots of Na’vi interacting with aquatic mammals like whales. Pandora is an Earth-like habitable extra-solar moon of the giant Polyphemus from the Alpha Centauri system that also featured in the original film.

“With the first Avatar, we set out to push the limits of the big screen. With the new Avatar films, we’re pushing those limits even farther, with 3D, with high dynamic range, with high frame rate, higher resolution, and a much greater reality in our visual effects,” Cameron said during the event.

The first film involved a human invasion in Pandora to mine a valuable mineral named Unobtanium. A peaceful and nature-loving species called the Na’vi who had feline-like eyes and blue bodies lived in Pandora.

Actors Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, Michelle Rodriguez, and Sigourney Weaver reprise their roles in the sequel. Meanwhile, actors Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Edie Falco, Brendan Cowell, Michelle Yeoh, Jemaine Clement, Oona Chaplin, David Thewlis, CJ Jones, and Vin Diesel are joining the franchise’s cast.
