New Delhi: An 8-year-old girl succumbed to a dog bite in the Rampuria area of Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh on Saturday. The girl, identified as Maya, was bitten by a street dog two weeks ago.
According to family members, Maya was playing outside the house when a stray dog appeared out of nowhere and bit her.
The family members immediately rushed Maya to a nearby private hospital. She was sent home after receiving primary treatment.
However, she was admitted to the district hospital when her condition deteriorated. Maya died during the treatment.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Anand Chandelkar said, “Maya’s family members revealed that she received only one injection when she was admitted in the private clinic, whereas she should have received 3 injections on the 1st day, 3rd day, and 7th day of the dog bite.”
“Her health deteriorated when she was not given the injection on time. She was in a critical state when brought to the hospital. The family should have followed the dog that bit her to check if it had rabies,” he said.
Several similar incidents reported in Ratlam over the past few weeks. The Municipal Corporation has given a contract to a Jaipur-based firm for sterilizing nearly 5000 dogs in the city. The district ranks two in the overall cases of dog bites in the state, with 10 to 12 dog bites reported every day.
