In today’s competitive world, having an edge over others is a prerequisite to land a job. While academics is important, one cannot discount the fact that learning new skills or constant upskilling makes you stand apart in the crowd.
Ambuja Cement Foundation’s (ACF) Skill & Entrepreneurship Development Institute (SEDI) has been imparting training under its employment-oriented skill development programmes to help rural youth secure well-paying jobs or become self-reliant. The foundation, which is the CSR arm of the Adani Group-owned Ambuja Cements, has trained over 17,000 youth from Gujarat so far. After the course, the candidates are provided placement assistance. For those opting to start their own businesses, the foundation runs an entrepreneurship development programme and provides help in making a feasible plan, as also in raising finances and registration. Over 500 youth from rural areas have become successful entrepreneurs as a result of this.
SEDI is working towards bringing change among the youth of rural India, enabling them to achieve their aspirations and realize their dreams. There are seven skill centres located in Kodinar, Surat, Gandhinagar, Sanand, Morbi, Mahuva and Rajula, where courses are offered for wireman control panel, assembly operator, CNC cutting operator, general duty assistant, fitter fabricator, welder, PCB assembly, BPO, sewing machine operator, domestic data entry operator and customer care executive. As the demand for the skills is on the rise, the candidates get many opportunities to reshape their career and future while providing their families with a comfortable life.
Women candidates are encouraged to enroll in courses such as fitter fabrication, welding, and electrician courses. So far, 9,565 women have benefited from the courses. With over 35 SEDI branches across 10 states and a placement rate of 77%, more than 1,00,000 youth have received training.
