Jannik Sinner defeats Medvedev, wins Australian Open

New Delhi: Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner won his first Grand Slam on Sunday after defeating Russian rival Daniil Medvedev in the Australian Open.

Although Sinner, 22, lost two sets in the beginning but won the final game 3-6-3-6-6-4-6-3.

He was the number four tennis player in the world.

The last Australian Open final in 2022 was also bad for Medvedev when he lost to Rafael Nadal, despite winning in the first two sets.

Medvedev, now 27, lost six final games in the biggest tennis tournaments. In 2021, he lost to Novak Djokovic and in 2022 to Rafael Nadal at the same stadium in Melbourne Park.
