New Delhi: Police and federal agents swarmed into a northwest Washington neighborhood on Friday after at least four people were shot in a flurry of gunfire. Police said the suspect killed himself after an hour-long search.

Police said the suspect, Raymond Spencer, 23, of suburban Fairfax, Virginia, was initially identified from a video he had posted on social media that appeared to show gunshots fired from the vantage point of an upper-floor window, with the misspelled label: “Shool shooting!”

Some area schools went into lockdowns, Metropolitan Police Department Chief Robert Contee said. Residents in surrounding neighborhoods had been asked to shelter in place as officers went door-to-door. Police seized more than half a dozen firearms, including several rifles, and large amounts of ammunition in the apartment, which had been arranged in a “sniper-type setup” with a tripod weapons mount, the chief said.

“His intent was to kill and hurt members of our community,” but investigators had yet to determine a motive, Contee said, adding that the gunman acted alone.

Three people struck by gunfire were taken to area hospitals – a 54-year-old man and a woman in her mid-30s with severe wounds, a 12-year-old girl wounded in the arm, and A fourth victim, a woman in her 60s had a “graze” wound to her back, Assistant Police Chief Stuart Emerman said.
