US Open 2021: Novak Djokovic defeats A. Zverev, waltz into finals

New Delhi: Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic advanced into the US Open finals after defeating German player Alexander Zverev 3-2 in Men’s Singles semi-finals at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York on Saturday.

Djokovic committed double faults that led Zverev into winning the opening of 5 sets by 4-6. The 2nd set saw Zverev making horrible cross-court errors and net deflections. He ultimately lost the deuce and the match to Djokovic 2-6.

The players were tied 1-1 after the second set. Djokovic’s propelling serves, aces, and swift footwork made him win the consecutive set by 6-4. The World No.4 pushed his way through set 4 and won by 4-6, but was overtaken by the World No.1 in the final match 2-6.

The Tokyo Olympics Gold Medallist last faced Djokovic in the quarterfinals of the Games.

Novak Djokovic is only one game away from winning the 21st Grand Slam. It will be the 1st calendar win since Rod Laver in 1969.

He will face Russian player Daniil Medvedev in the US Open finals on Monday.
