Two Army officers died as India’s Chetak crashed

New Delhi: Two Army officers died as a Chetak helicopter belonging to the Indian Army crashed in Bhutan on Friday.

The single-engine helicopter was piloted by one Indian and one Royal Bhutanese Army pilots. The Indian Army undertook training of pilots also as part of the Indian Military Training Team. There were no survivors, the Indian Army said in a statement.

The crash happened at 1 pm near Yonphullla in Bhutan and the copter went out of radio and visual contact soon after 1 pm, the statement added. It was on the way from Khirmu (Arunanchal) to Yongfulla on duty.

Ground Search And Rescue (SAR) was launched immediately from Yongfulla and the Indian Air Force and Army helicopter SARs were launched from Misamari, Guwahati and Hashimara. The reason behind the crash is still to be found out.

The wreckage has been located at Yongfulla in Bhutan.
