New Delhi, July 3: Tennis icon Novak Djokovic won the first match at the Wimbledon 2024 after beating his Czech challenger Vit Kopriva, the media reported on Wednesday. Djokovic won 6-1,6-2,6-2 against Kopriva, who is world number 111.
The 37-year-old Djokovic who was playing his first tournament since a knee surgery, said “I tried to really focus on the game and not think about the knee too much. It was very good. I was very pleased with the way I moved on the court today.”
In the second round, he will face British Jacob Fearnley on Thursday. In Wimbledon history, Djokovic has won seven titles. He is the second tennis player to win the most Wimbledon titles after Roger Federer’s eight titles.
