New Delhi, July 4: Italian icon Jannik Sinner has reached the third round at Wimbledon 2024 after beating his compatriot Matteo Berretini, the media reported on Thursday.
The world no.1, Sinner won 7-6(7-3)7-6(7-4)2-6,7-6(7-4) against world no.59 Berretini.
“We are very good friends. We play Davis Cup together, and sometimes we practice together. It is very tough we had to face in the second round of such an important tournament,” Sinner, 22, said after the match.
Sinner, who won the 2024 Australian Open, is now aiming to win his second Grand Slam at this year’s Wimbledon.
In the third round, he will face Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic on Friday.
