New Delhi, June 2: Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka has withdrawn from the 2024 Wimbledon due to a shoulder injury, the media reported on Monday.
Sabalenka,26, was scheduled to play American Emina Bektas on the opening day of the tournament.
“I tried everything to get myself ready but unfortunately my shoulder is not cooperating. I pushed myself to the limit in practice today to try my best, but my team explained that playing would only make things much worse,” she wrote on her Instagram account.
Russian Erica Andreeva, who lost to British Sonny Kartal in the Wimbledon qualification, replaced Sabalenka as a lucky loser.
Last week, world no.3, Sabalenka also retired from a match against Russian Anna Kalinskaya at the Berlin Open.
