New Delhi: Belarus tennis player Aliaksandra Sasnovich crushed World No.11 Romanian Simona Halep by 2-0 in the Women’s Singles category of the BNP Paribas Open 2021 at the Indian Wells, California, on Monday.
Sasnovich had an aggressive start as she won back-to-back serve points and aces as her opponent Halep dropped a serve at 3-3, made 5 unforced errors, and led the match into a deuce. Sasnovich won the opening set with 7-5.
The World No.100 started on a level footing with a 2-0 lead in set 2, managed to fire backhand smashes on 3-points, and broke the 4-4 tie to win the match by 6-4.
Sasnovich defeated 2 Grand Slam champions in straight sets consecutively.
Now she will face two-time Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka who beat two-time Wimbledon champion, Grand Slam winner, and World No. 7 Petra Kvitova in round 3.
