NEW DELHI, Nov 2: Two persons were killed and five injured in a random killing in Canada’s Quebec city on Monday.

The police while confirming the incident identified the attacker as Carl Girouard, 24, who was wearing medieval clothes and carried a Japanese Katana sword.

The Police ruled out any terror connection in the incident and said he had come to Quebec, a predominantly French-speaking province in eastern Canada, “with the intention of doing maximum possible damage” and chose his victims at random at four different locations in the city.

He was presented before a judge through video conferencing charged with two counts of first degree murder and five counts of attempted murder. The victims of the attack were François Duchesne (56) and Suzanne Clermont (61).

Giving details of the incident the state police said, “Two people were killed and five wounded in a Halloween attack in Quebec City by a sword-wielding suspect dressed in medieval clothing. The attacks occurred in the historic Old Quebec neighborhood of the city.”

According to Police “the Suspect was armed with a long blade and dressed in medieval clothing. He went on a stabbing spree near the regional parliament building in the city.”

The Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau expressed shock and his office issued a statement in which he said, “We wish full recovery to those who have been injured. We are keeping you in our thoughts. On behalf of the Government of Canada, let me assure you that we will always be there for you. I would also like to thank first responders for their crucial work. They responded quickly to this tragedy and were there to ensure the safety of their fellow citizens.”
