New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday extended greetings to the nation on the occasion of Sirhind Fateh Divas and paid tribute to Baba Banda Singh Bahadur, describing him as a symbol of unwavering devotion to faith, courage and dedication to the motherland.
In a post on X, HM Shah said Baba Banda Singh Bahadur was an ascetic at heart and an invincible warrior for the defence of faith who organised farmers against injustice and delivered an enduring message of self-respect, bravery and protection of religion.
He added that Baba Banda Singh Bahadur defeated the Mughals and inspired generations through his courage and commitment to justice. Despite enduring countless cruelties, he never accepted religious conversion and his life would continue to inspire people in safeguarding the nation and faith.
Sirhind Fateh Divas commemorates the historic victory of the Khalsa forces led by Baba Banda Singh Bahadur over the Mughal administration of Sirhind in 1710. The victory is regarded as a significant chapter in Sikh history and is remembered as a symbol of resistance against oppression and tyranny.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Nitin Nabin also extended greetings on the occasion, stating that Baba Banda Singh Bahadur’s victory over the Mughal rulers demonstrated that his struggle was not for power, but for the protection of national duty, faith and self-respect.
Delhi BJP chief Virendraa Sachdeva said the victory of the Khalsa Army under Baba Banda Singh Bahadur’s leadership symbolised the triumph of justice, courage and religion over injustice and oppression. He added that the occasion remains a tribute to the sacrifice of the younger Sahibzadas and an enduring symbol of the dignity of faith.
