Sikkim: Girl students to receive self-defence training

Gangtok: A special secretary to the education department of Sikkim on Sunday took the very important step to protect the girls from the anti-social elements.

Bhim Thatal – special secretary, Sikkim – said that “Girl students of Class 6 to 10in all government schools in Sikkim will receive self-defence training. Girl students would be trained in self-defence to defend themselves.”

Bhim Thatal’s statement came after the inauguration of self-defence training programme for girls at Samdong Government Senior Secondary School.

Thatal said “self-defence training is also to inculcate discipline in the students as well as to prepare them for the future obstacles.”

Girl students in government’s school will be trained in Karate, Boxing, Kickboxing and Taekwondo.
