New Delhi: Chief Executive Officer of the Serum Institute of India – Adar Poonawalla on Saturday announced about ‘Covovax’ coronavirus vaccine of India.
Adar Poonawalla said that “We are working to launch ‘Covovax’ coronavirus vaccine by June 2021 and ‘Covovax’ vaccine could be the third coronavirus vaccine in India if the government will approve it.”
India has already rolled out a massive coronavirus vaccination drive using two vaccines, Covishield and Covaxin.
Covishield has been developed by AstraZeneca and Oxford University and is being manufactured by Serum Institute of India.
Serum Institute trials ‘Covavax’ vaccine nowadays and it is 89.3 percent effective against coronavirus. We have received satisfactory results, Poonawalla said.
Our partnership with ‘Novavax’ is good so far and we have already written an application to the government for ‘Covavax’ trials. We hope that we will launch this vaccine by 2021, he added.
The Union ministry of health and family welfare said on Saturday that “more than 3.5 million people have been vaccinated against Covid-19 in the country so far with 571,974 vaccinations conducted in the last 24 hours.”
