SAARC Diary: Herath Appointed Media and Communications Director to Sri Lankan PM

 NEW DELHI, Oct 14: Wijayananda Herath a, Post-Graduate in Sociology, has been  appointed as the Media and Communications Director to the Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.

He will work as the Head of the Prime Minister’s Media and Communication Division.

Herath earlier has served as the Coordinating Secretary to the President for eight years from 2006 to 2014 during Mahinda Rajapaksa’s tenure as President. During the same time, he also held the post of President of the State Media Secretaries Association.

He has been the Media Advisor to the Sri Lanka People’s Front Media Centre since 2016.

Wijayananda Herath has worked through to the top by holding various positions in the Government. He has functioned as the Head of Communications at the Employee’s Trust Fund Board and is also a member of the Board of Governors of the Institute of Human Resource Development (IHRA), University of Colombo and also served as the media officer of the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources.
