New Delhi: Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine is aimed at demilitarization and denazification of the country, and Moscow will ensure that the country has a non-nuclear and neutral status, Russian Ambassador to the US Anatoly Antonov said on Thursday.

The diplomat slammed the recent decision by the Organization of American States (OAS) to suspend Russia’s observer status over the situation in Ukraine as a part of a “deliberate campaign to isolate Russia on international platforms.”

“We are being punished for firmly defending our legitimate national interests and refusing to bend to others’ will,” he said.

“The Russian special military operation in Ukraine is aimed at demilitarization, denazification of Ukraine,” he said. “We need confirmation of this eastern European country’s non-nuclear and neutral status. We will ensure it. This is vital for our Slavic peoples living in Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus,” the Russian embassy’s press service quoted Antonov as saying on its Telegram channel.
