New Delhi: Washington’s uncompromising’ stance towards Venezuela has fallen to pieces as soon as the economic war the US has been waging on Russia has had an adverse effect on the United States itself, a senior Russian diplomat said.
“The fact that the US has directly contacted Caracas in the circumstances clearly shows the opportunistic nature of its foreign policy. The ‘uncompromising’ stance has fallen to pieces as soon as Washington’s economic war against Russia has had an adverse effect on the US itself. This is one example of Washington’s moves that have caused an imbalance in the energy market,” Alexander Shchetinin, Director of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Department of Latin America, said in a media interview.
Meanwhile, the interaction between Moscow and Caracas has proved that the authorities in Venezuela “know pretty well who is who,” the Russian diplomat said. “Our cooperation is going ahead and will develop regardless of any sanctions, be it against those imposed on Venezuela or on Russia,” he stressed.
The Washington Post reported earlier that the Biden administration saw room for lifting its oil sanctions from Venezuela in exchange for cooperation and fruitful talks with the opposition on the part of Caracas.
