New Delhi: The tennis pair comprising Indian player Rohan Bopanna and Canadian player Denis Shapovalov defeated the Dutch Botic van de Zandschulp and American Mackenzie Mcdonald pair 6-4, 7-6 (7-2) in the Qatar Open 2022 at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex, Doha, on Thursday, February 17, 2022.

The Indo-Canadian pair received an early lead and easily won the opening set. The duo defended their serves against the Dutch-American.

The synchronization and aggressive form gave them the upper hand in the final set. However, Zandschulp and Mcdonald returned stronger and pushed the match into a tiebreaker.

Bopanna-Shapovalov ultimately won the set 7-6 (7-2) and secured a seat in the finals.

Meanwhile, Shapovalov lost the singles semifinals in straight sets 0-2 to French player Arthur Rinderknech during the Qatar Open 2022 quarterfinals on Thursday, February 17, 2022.

Bopanna has won two titles, the Adelaide International and Tata Open Maharashtra, in 2022. He won the titles alongside compatriot Ramkumar Ramanathan.

The Indo-Canadian duo will face the American-British pair of Wesley Koolhof and Neal Skupski in the Qatar Open finals on Friday, February 18, 2022.
