New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu on Monday hosted South Korean President Lee Jae-myung at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where the two leaders held bilateral talks and attended a state banquet during his three-day visit to India.
Welcoming President Lee on his first visit of the country, President Murmu appreciated his efforts to strengthen India–South Korea ties, particularly his role as Chair of the Korea-India Parliamentary Friendship Group. She noted that the visit, coming within his first year in office, reflects the priority he places on bilateral relations.
Highlighting shared democratic values, the President said both countries are vibrant democracies built on mutual trust. She also welcomed the formation of the India-Korea Parliamentary Friendship Group in the Indian Parliament, saying it would deepen engagement between lawmakers for both countries.
President Murmu underlined the wide scope of cooperation between the two nations, noting ongoing collaboration across sectors such as shipbuilding, port development, digital technology, MSMEs, steel, education, research, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.
She also welcomed the decision to resume talks on upgrading the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
Emphasising future opportunities, the President said, “India has skill, speed and scale, while Korea has expertise in high-tech manufacturing. By combining our strengths, we can create numerous opportunities for our youth.”
She further highlighted cooperation in emerging areas including artificial intelligence, semiconductors, electronics, clean energy, services, and tourism. Stressing sustainability, Murmu called for stronger collaboration in green energy and climate technologies.
