Ahmedabad: Haryana boxer Pooja Rani beat Parvathi P of Kerala in the pre-quarterfinals round in the 81kg category of the 5th Elite Women’s National Boxing Championship at St Joseph’s International School, Haryana, on Sunday.
The Asian Champion displayed aggressive punches that knocked out Parvathi P. in round 1 and led to the referee stopping the contest (RSC) as Pooja Rani qualified for the quarterfinals in the 81kg category.
Meanwhile, World Youth Champion Neetu Singh (Haryana) defeated Purabi Karmakar from West Bengal 5-0 in the 48kg category as Ankushita Boro (Assam) defeated Amandeep Kaur (Punjab) in the 66kg category on Sunday to secure a place in the Quarterfinals.
The 5th Elite Women’s National Boxing Championship 2021 is organised by the Boxing Federation of India, in association with the Haryana Boxing Sangh.
The tournament follows the weight divisions of 48 kg, 50 kg, 54 kg, 57 kg, 60 kg, 63 kg, 66 kg, 70 kg, 75 kg, 81 kg, and +81 kg categories, as provided by the International Boxing Association (AIBA).
The winner and the runner-up, primarily gold and silver medallists, will secure a place in the National Coaching Camp. There will be selection trials to choose two boxers from each category for the Camp.
