PM Modi condoles loss of lives in Mirzapur road accident

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh for the families of those who lost their lives in a road accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur.

The accident occurred on Wednesday night around 8:30 PM in the Dramandganj police station area of Mirzapur district. According to police, a truck carrying chickpeas suffered a brake failure, went out of control, and rammed into an SUV. The impact caused the SUV to collide with a sedan, which then caught fire.

In a post on X, PM Modi said, “Deeply anguished by the loss of lives due to the mishap in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. Praying for the quick recovery of the injured.”

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said that an ex-gratia amount of ₹2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) will be provided to the next of kin of each person who lost their life in the mishap, while those injured will receive ₹50,000 as financial assistance.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also expressed grief over the tragedy and announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh for the victims’ families. He directed officials to ensure proper medical treatment for the injured and provide all necessary assistance.
