New Delhi, July 30: The Olympics men’s triathlon at the ongoing Games 2024 in Paris was postponed for a day after tests showed water quality in the Seine River didn’t reach the required standard, the media reported on Tuesday.
“Tests carried out in the Seine revealed water quality didn’t provide sufficient guarantees to allow the event to be held,” the World Triathlon said in the statement.
The race, which was supposed to start at 7:00 BSG (08:00 local time in France) on Tuesday, will now begin on Wednesday at 9:45(10:45 local time).
Due to water quality issues in the Seine, swimming training sessions were also canceled on Sunday and Monday.
The Paris Games organizers recently said 1.4 billion euros has been spent to clean up the Seine River for use during this Summer Olympics. But heavy rain in Paris on Friday and Saturday last week polluted the river.
