No direct flights from India to Canada till September 21

New Delhi: The Transport Department of Canada extended the ban on direct flights from India to Canada till September 21. Canada imposed its first ban on April 22 and has already been rolled over several times. It is the fifth time the ban has been extended.

The Transport Department of Canada clearly said that “Canada has extended its ban on direct passenger flights from India until September 21 as the South Asian country struggles to contain the spread of COVID-19 within its borders.’

“Based on the latest public health advice from the Public Health Agency of Canada, Transport Canada is extending the Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) that restricts all direct commercial and private passenger flights to Canada from India until September 21, 2021, at 23:59 EDT,” the department said in a statement.

The ban on flights from India was set to expire on August 21, but will now remain in place till September 21.

A decision taken by the government of Canada will definitely affect students – who are looking to study in Canada. According to education experts – a continuous ban on flights from India to Canada changed the mind of lots of students and directed them to study in another country.

On the other side, Canada welcomed fully vaccinated Americans to the country. Ottawa lifted quarantine requirements for US citizens and permanent residents arriving with proof of vaccination.

Last week, United Arab Emirates (UAE) announced exceptions of new categories of travelers from India and five other countries. Travelers who are fully vaccinated against Covid-19 and hold valid UAE residency permits will be allowed entry into the UAE.

At least 14 days should have passed after receiving the second vaccine dose. They must also hold a certificate to this effect. The decision includes people who are in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Nigeria, and Uganda. The UAE government said unvaccinated people in certain job categories can seek permission to return.
