“Money Raining from Sky” in Chile

NEW DELHI, Oct 22: Some lucky bystanders in a Chilean highway could lay their hands on cash “raining from the sky” but the police was successful in recovering most of the money from the gangsters.

According to media reports, glimpses of money raining on a highway in Chile on social media made people curious but the reality unfolded later. The incident was actually linked to a gambling hall robbery that went wrong.

Police said the thieves launched an attack on a casino in Pudahuel at around 7:45 pm, hoping to get away with whatever cash the property had, adding that the thieves threatened an employee with a firearm, forcing her to turn over the money.

As the robbers tried to flee in their car, police started chasing them. The criminals, in a blue sedan, made their way onto Chile’s North Coastal Highway, heading east as fast as possible and in a bid to distract the chasing police vehicles, the thieves started throwing cash out of their car. The ploy, however, and the policemen did not gave up the case ignoring the cash flowing on the road.

Soon the police managed to overtake the robbers and forced the car to a stop. They arrested six people, all foreign nationals. Two were in the country illegally, but the police didn’t provide details on the country of origin for any of them.

Fortunately, there were no injuries at either the gambling hall or on the highway. Police recovered as much cash as they could, but some of the bills floated away to a few lucky bystanders.
