Man Arrested for Urinating in a Shiva Temple

NEW DELHI, Oct 20: The Meerut police has arrested a man after a video of a CCTV camera went viral on the social media showing a person urinating inside a Shiva temple premises in Rasna village under Sarurpur police station.

The police said on Thursday that the man seen in the CCTV camera was identified as Mohammad Shoaib, a mentally challenged Muslim and a habitual drinker, who lived in the same village. The police also claimed that the arrested man had confessed his crime and had told the police that he did it in an inebriated condition.

The incident was of October 18 when the priests on reaching the 200-year-old temple of lord Shiva early in the morning found the main gate open and a foul stench coming out of the main place of worship where the Shivling was idolised.

As per the cops, the priest called a local boy Mohit who helped them see the CCTV footage. Subsequently they informed police and a probe initiated. A complaint was lodged by the priests following which CCTV footage was checked and subsequently Shoaib was identified.

As the video of the incident surfaced on the internet. Netizens condemned the despicable act and called for immediate action against the suspect. Police after investigating the footage for two days, identified the accused and sent him in judicial custody.

Following the arrest, R.P Shahi, Circle officer (CO) in Meerut police told media that Shoaib was a mentally challenged person and a habitual drinker. He confessed to police that he was inebriated when he carried out the shameful act.
