New Delhi: At the invitation of the Indian Minister for External Affairs Dr. S. Jaishankar, his Maldivian counterpart Abdulla Shahid arrived in the national capital on a three-day visit on Thursday.

Shahid is also the President-elect of United Nations’s 76th General Assembly.

The ministry said the visiting dignitary will pay a courtesy call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and hold discussions with Dr. Jaishankar on major international, multilateral, regional, and bilateral matters of mutual concern.

Shahid will also virtually address a gathering on Friday at the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA) in New Delhi, on the theme of “Presidency of Hope: Covid Pandemic and Need for Reformed Multilateralism”.

This is Shahid’s first visit to any country after his election as the President-elect of the UNGA on June 7. He had earlier visited India as the Maldives’ Minister of Foreign Affairs during April 2021.

They will also sign an agreement for high-impact community development projects in the Maldives, to be implemented with Indian grant help.
