Lifestyle: Positive effects of music on humans

Social Share

New Delhi: Human emotions can be evoked through music- from sadness, nostalgia, and tense feelings to happiness, relaxation, calm and joyous feelings. A positive mood decreases pain and anxiety and enhances emotional expression through music. Music has a wide range of physical and mental health benefits.

People can be profoundly affected by music. In addition to alleviating many psychological issues, it also increases spatial awareness and enhances mood. Melody can help cope with pain as well as help fade it.

It is also important to consider the genre of the music as different tempo and tunes create different vibrations that set that background in one’s mind.

It is easier to express feelings through lyrics and songs. A song can mean a lot to one person and make one feel better when they read the lyrics of that song. When people are at their lowest, it can affect them and change their mood. Therefore, writing one’s feelings can be very helpful in fighting negative emotions.

This is because writing down feelings allows you to release your emotions and prevents your mind from harbouring negative thoughts or mental illnesses such as depression.

Psychologist Jun Cellini states that music helps express emotions and can encourage in letting go of the suppressed ones. Positive upbeat music can help lift your mood while slow music might increase your sorrow.

Music plays a positive role in humans as certain genres help in enhancing moods. For example, energetic, fast-paced songs improve moods. Workout music boosts physical performance and increases endurance during a tough exercise session and people listen to music to boost their mood during workouts.

Children are subjected to music from childhood. Lullabies have calmed children and are effective in putting them to sleep.

The emotions are stirred by music. People tend to cry over emotional songs, patriotic songs make our chest swell just by the few words within, romantic songs express feelings that conversation fails to, and party songs make people tap their feet and sway as soon as they start playing.

Moreover, music is one of the most effective and least expensive kinds of medicine one can provide to someone to get them energised.
