New Delhi: President Lee Jae Myung has concluded a six-day visit to India and Vietnam, where he focused on strengthening strategic cooperation in energy and supply chains amid uncertainties linked to the Middle East conflict.

During the trip, Lee held high-level talks with leaders from both nations to deepen economic and strategic partnerships across various sectors, reports Yonhap news agency.

On Monday, in New Delhi, he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where the two sides agreed to expand economic collaboration in key sectors including critical minerals, energy, artificial intelligence, finance, and shipbuilding.

They also committed to accelerating negotiations to upgrade their Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), with a shared goal of doubling bilateral trade to $50 billion by 2030 from the current $25 billion.

On Wednesday, Lee held summit talks with Vietnam’s top leader To Lam in Hanoi, agreeing to enhance cooperation in energy, infrastructure, and technology, while strengthening coordination on supply chains.

“In light of recent developments in the Middle East, we will continue to strengthen bilateral cooperation to ensure a stable supply of energy resources and key raw materials,” Lee said after the summit.

The two sides also pledged to accelerate talks to upgrade their Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).

On the sidelines of the India visit, 15 memorandums of understanding (MOUs) were signed to boost cooperation with India, the world’s fourth-largest economy.

Lee particularly expressed interest in expanding collaboration in shipbuilding, following an agreement to explore the joint development of a shipyard in the South Asian country.
