New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday extended his greetings to devotees as the doors of Kedarnath Temple reopened, marking the start of the annual pilgrimage season in Uttarakhand.

In a letter addressed to pilgrims shared on X, the Prime Minister described the  journey to Kedarnath  and the broader Char Dham Yatra as a “divine celebration of faith, unity, and rich traditions.”

“On the sacred land of Devbhoomi Uttarakhand, the doors of Shri Kedarnath Dham have been opened with full rites and rituals. This journey is a reflection of India’s eternal culture,” PM Modi said.

PM Modi highlighted the spiritual significance of the Char Dham circuit—comprising Badrinath Temple, Kedarnath, Gangotri Temple, and Yamunotri Temple—calling them centuries-old centres of devotion that embody India’s deep cultural and religious roots.

In his letter, he noted that these pilgrimage sites, set in the Himalayas and surrounded by holy rivers, offer a unique spiritual experience to devotees from across the country and abroad.

The Prime Minister also underscored the government’s efforts to upgrade infrastructure in the region to ensure a safer and more comfortable pilgrimage.

Improvements include upgraded roads and pathways, increased temple capacity, improved sanitation and drinking water facilities, expanded medical services, and strengthened security arrangements.

He added that ongoing development projects aim to preserve the sanctity of these religious sites while improving accessibility. Reconstruction work in Kedarnath and accelerated development in Badrinath were cited as key initiatives.

PM Modi also acknowledged the role of workers and authorities involved in these efforts, stating that better facilities contribute to a smoother and more fulfilling pilgrimage experience for devotees.

Concluding his message, the Prime Minister expressed hope that “Baba Kedar” would bless all devotees and make their journey auspicious, extending a warm welcome to pilgrims undertaking the sacred yatra.
