New Delhi: The Odisha Football Club (FC) beat NorthEast United 2-0 in an intriguing match of the Indian Super League (ISL) at the Nehru Stadium, Goa, on Tuesday, January 18, 2022.
Odisha FC player Aridai Suarez tried intercepting United player Mohamed Irshad’s pass to Mashoor Shereef in the 4th minute. However, Shereef immediately made a throw-in and recovered the ball. United’s Gurjinder Kumar made a cross from the left corner of the box in the 10th minute, but the ball went astray.
Suarez received the ball from the left flank, zoomed went past the defenders, and gave a low cross to Daniel Lalhlimpuia in the 17th minute. Daniel received the pass and scored a first for the team.
Meanwhile, Javier Hernandez got the ball outside the penalty box and sent a flying side pass to Suarez in the 22nd minute. NorthEast keeper Mirshad Michu missed the shot by Suarez, who made another goal for the team.
Odisha’s Jerry Mawihmingthanga paced brilliantly, but his pass to Suarez in the 41st minute went awry.
The second half began with substitutions and a yellow card for United’s Sehnaj Singh in the 49th minute. Though United’s Hernan Santana shot from outside the box, the ball went off the bar in the 51st minute. Though Hernandez made a strike from outside the box, the shot went wide in the 61st minute.
Michu made a stunning save as Nandhakumar Sekar made a sharp shot in the 67th minute. Sekar passed the possession to Liridon Krasniqi, as Michu saved the strike in the 84th minute.
Though NorthEast United created ample scoring opportunities, Odisha keeper beautifully saved the shots. The match ended with Odisha leading a 2-0 victory.
