Indian Super League: Chennaiyin FC Defeats NorthEast United 2-1

New Delhi: Chennaiyin Football Club (FC) defeated NorthEast United by 2-1 in the Indian Super League at the Nehru Stadium, Goa, on Saturday, January 22, 2022.

The match began with FC’s Ninthoinganba Meetei giving a shot to Vladimir Koman in the first minute. Koman made a right-foot shot from outside the box, but NorthEast keeper Mirshad Michu blocked the attempt. Meetei made a right-foot shot from the right side of the box that went wide in the 18th minute.

Though NorthEast’s Suhair Vadakkepeedika struck from the left side of the box, he missed the shot to the left in the 22nd minute. NorthEast’s Imran Khan assisted Laldanmawia Ralte, whose attempt missed to the left in the 28th minute.

NorthEast’s Patrick Flottmann gave a corner when Ralte made a right-foot shot from the bottom left corner and scored the first goal in the 34th minute. NorthEast’s Gurjinder Kumar gave a long pass to Mohammed Irshad in the 41st minute, but the right foot shot from outside the box went high.

The second half began with Chennaiyin’s Ariel Borysiuk shooting from outside the box in the 51st minute. Borysiuk’s shot hit the bottom left corner, and Chennaiyin equalised scores 1-1. Chennaiyin began to attack aggressively and received another chance in the 57th minute.

Koman struck a right foot corner to the bottom right corner and converted a free-kick. Meanwhile, the NorthEast failed to score despite several scoring chances. The FC won the match with 2-1 scores.
