Indian Super League: Bengaluru FC and SC East Bengal Face a 1-1 Draw

New Delhi: Bengaluru Football Club (FC) and SC East Bengal scored a 1-1 tie in the Indian Super League (ISL) at the Tilak Maidan Stadium, Goa, on Tuesday, January 4, 2022.

The match began with SC East Bengal’s goalkeeper Arindam Bhattacharja receiving a yellow card for attempting to foul Bengaluru’s Prince Ibara. Bengaluru also had a rough start with Gurpreet Singh Sandhu misjudging a free-kick.

Both teams created scoring opportunities in the 18th minute when Bengaluru blocked Lalrinliana Hnamte’s shot. Roshan Naorem of Bengaluru received a yellow card, and Bengal’s Semboi Haokip delivered a free-kick header within half an hour into the game.

Though Alan Costa of Bengal tried equalizing scores a few minutes later, his header went over the bar.
Bengaluru began dominating their opponents in the second half but in vain. However, Sourav Das of Bengal snatched Roshan’s right flank cross and shot in his goalpost and equalized scores in the 56th minute.

Though Bengaluru FC possessed the ball, they failed to create scoring opportunities. Ibara failed to lead the team as his header crossed the bar. Bengal keeper also saved Sunil Chhetri’s 10-yard strike in the 71st minute.

Though both teams tried substituting their players, they failed to outweigh their opponents. Five additional minutes were also provided but in vain. The match ended as a 1-1 draw between Bengaluru and East Bengal.
