India@75: Virtual meet on Bhutan’s relationship with Assam, N-E states

New Delhi: The Indian Embassy in Thimphu, Bhutan, hosted a virtual conference on Friday on the contribution of Assam in India’s Freedom Struggle, connectivity, and synergies between Assam and Bhutan.

The meet was held in a hybrid format as part of the Government of India’s Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsava (India@75 celebrations to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of India’s Independence in 2022.

Lyonpo Loknath Sharma, Bhutan’s Minister of Economic Affairs, presided over the event.

Indian Ambassador to Bhutan Ruchira Kamboj highlighted Assam as a major Indian state with which Bhutan has close links. She praised Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for strengthening relations between India’s northeastern states with Bhutan.

Bhutan had recently opened a Consulate in Guwahati, thus contributing to developing regional economy and connectivity between the two neighbors.
