New Delhi: The government of India Monday announced to help Ukraine by providing medicines and humanitarian aid. Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said that “as of now, six flights – four from Bucharest in Romania and two from Budapest in Hungary – have arrived in India carrying around 1,400 Indian citizens.”
The MEA spokesperson said that “Evacuation efforts on… The situation on the ground continues to be complex and fluid, some of them quite concerning, but we have been able to accelerate our evacuation process. About 8000 Indian nationals have left Ukraine since we issued the advisory, not since the conflict began,”
The Government of India advised its nationals to move to Western Ukraine and avoid going to border areas while urging them to seek shelter in nearby cities and not to panic.
Bagchi also said that it was not feasible to evacuate Indians from Kharkiv as it is a conflict zone, adding that they are exploring other options.
India has been focusing on shifting its citizens from the areas in the east of Ukraine including Kharkiv to the country’s western region for their subsequent evacuation through border crossings to Hungary, Romania, Poland, and Slovakia.
