New Delhi: India is hosting the 68th Governing Body meeting of the Asian Productivity Organization in New Delhi this week, bringing together delegates from across the Asia-Pacific region as countries discuss productivity-led growth, institutional reforms and regional cooperation.

The three-day meeting, being held from May 20 to 22 at Bharat Mandapam, will see participation from more than 60 senior delegates representing 20 APO member economies, the commerce ministry said on Wednesday.

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal is scheduled to attend the inaugural session on Thursday.

The discussions are expected to focus on the APO Vision 2030 framework, budget proposals for 2027–28 and reforms linked to the election process for the organisation’s secretary-general.

Delegates will also deliberate on governance reforms, annual programme priorities and institutional performance during the annual governing body meeting, which serves as the APO’s top decision-making forum.

Observers from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Bhutan, along with representatives of the Global Green Growth Institute, are also participating in the session, according to the ministry.

India currently chairs the APO Governing Body after Amardeep Singh Bhatia, Secretary in the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), assumed the role during last year’s governing body meeting.

The ministry said awards recognising productivity advocates and technical experts from member economies will also be presented during the inaugural session.

Established in 1961, the APO is an intergovernmental organisation comprising 21 member economies in the Asia-Pacific region and works on productivity enhancement through policy cooperation, technical support and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

The event is also expected to facilitate bilateral and multilateral engagements among participating economies as India seeks to strengthen its role in regional economic and institutional cooperation.
