New Delhi: India on Tuesday gets slight relief from Covid-19 cases as the Union health authority recorded 9923 new infections in the last 24 hours. The number of active cases increased to 79,313, and the death toll climbed to 5,24,890 with 17 fresh fatalities.
The top five states which have registered maximum cases are Kerala with 2,786 cases, followed by Maharashtra with 2,354 cases, Delhi with 1,060 cases, Tamil Nadu with 686 cases, and Haryana with 684 cases.
A total of 7,293 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, which brings the total recoveries to 4,27,15,193 across the country. The active cases comprise 0.18 percent of the total infections. The national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.61 percent, the health ministry said.
According to ICMR, more than 85.85 crore tests have been conducted so far in the country and 388,641 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours.
India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 2020, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5, and 50 lakh on September 16. It went past 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20, and surpassed the 1-crore mark on December 19.
