New Delhi: Pentagon Press secretary John Kirby on Monday praised the work India has done in Afghanistan for the development. Kirby in his official statement said that “India has played a constructive role in Afghanistan in the past in terms of training and other infrastructure improvements. That kind of work, that kind of effort to help Afghanistan maintain stability and good governances is always welcome.”
John Kirby stated at the daily press conference and during responding to a question on Indo-US cooperation in Afghanistan.
After the withdrawal of the US troops and foreign armed forces from Afghanistan, India could be the only ray of hope for the government and other officials of Afghanistan. The Afghanistan-based political experts believe that India had played a major and vital role in the development of Afghanistan and the New Delhi government can help more in the situation currently developed in the land-lock country.
John Kirby further added that “the Joe Biden administration is also actively engaged in talking to Pakistan about the safe havens that exist along the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan. We are mindful that those safe havens are only providing a source of more insecurity and more instability inside Afghanistan. We are not bashful about having that discussion with Pakistani leaders.”
The Administration of Joe Biden is now looking for a different bilateral relationship with Afghanistan, which will involve economic and financial support from outside the country.
Pentagon’s observation is significant, as it comes at a time when the US is in the process of withdrawing troops from the war-torn country.
With the US drawdown now near-complete, the Taliban has stepped up offensive across Afghanistan and captured cities. Over the weekend, the Taliban launched a major offensive capturing the northern city of Kunduz.
