NEW DELHI, Oct 5: The Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu on Thursday announced an incentive scheme to promote girl child.
He said the state government would give Rs 2 lakh to a family for the birth of a daughter and Rs 1 lakh for the birth of a second daughter. The Chief Minister made this announcement in Shimla when he was inaugurating a two-day workshop on Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act, 1994.
During the two-day workshop, discussions will be held on stopping female foeticide and implementing this Act effectively. Mr Sukhu also said Himachal ranked third in the country in sex ratio, and has 56 per cent women representatives in the Panchayati Raj institutions.
