New Delhi, June 8: After previously declaring that the 2022 World Cup would be his last, Argentine star Lionel Messi has now said that he may represent his country in the next World Cup in 2026.

“It depends on how I feel, how I’m physically fit, and knowing whether I’m at the level to be able to compete and help my teammates,” Messi told reporters on Friday, the media reported.

In the 2026 World Cup, he will be 39 years old. Messi, now 36, will represent Argentina’s national team at the 2024 Copa America this summer.

Since he debuted in Argentina’s national team in 2005, he has earned 180 caps and scored 106 goals.

With Argentina, Messi has won 5 major trophies, including the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the 2021 Copa America.
