New Delhi: The Indian football team won the SAFF U-18 women’s championship despite losing against Bangladesh 0-1 at the JRD Tata Complex, Jamshedpur, India, on Friday, March 25, 2022.
India had a better goal difference of +11 when compared to +3 of Bangladesh. Indian player Lynda Kom Serto became the most valuable player and the top scorer of the tournament by scoring five goals.
India snatched the lead from Bangladesh in the 5th minute with Shubhangi Singh shooting in the center of the box. Though Nitu Linda shot past Bangladesh keeper, the ball bounced into the keeper’s hands, and both teams ended the first half in a goalless draw.
The next half began with Bangladesh keeper blocking captain Shilky Devi’s shot in the 60th minute. Meanwhile, Bangladesh attacked aggressively and retained the lead as player Aklima Khatun shot outside the box in the 76th minute.
