New Delhi: Bangladesh football team beat India 1-0 in the SAFF U-19 Women’s Championship 2021 at the Bir Shreshtha Shaheed Shipahi Mostafa Kamal Stadium, Dhaka, on Friday.

The intense match began with Bangladesh receiving a penalty kick in the 7th minute. Footballer Shamsunnahar Sr. grabbed the opportunity and converted the penalty by scoring a first for the team.

As Bangladesh adopted an attacking strategy, the Indian team tried to equalise scores in the 40th minute.

Indian player Sumati Kumari gave a clean pass to Mariammal Balamurugan, who smashed a shot from the left.  However, the ball went straight into the hands of Bangladesh goalkeeper Rupna Chakma. The hosts were leading the first half by 1-0.

India led the second half by controlled possession and received an equalising opportunity in the 55th minute with Amisha Baxla’s long shot from the right. Unfortunately, Bangladesh keeper saved the goal.

Bangladesh’s Maria Manda committed a tactical foul and brought down Indian center-forward Hemam Shilky Devi in the 56th minute to avert danger. Sumati Kumari tried to score in the 73rd minute, but the ball went off-target.

Indian team failed to score despite changes made by coach Alex Ambrose, while Bangladesh registered a 1-0 win in their home country.

India previously won against Sri Lanka and Bhutan. They will face Nepal in their final match on Sunday.
