NEW DELHI, Nov 2: A 65-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death in Faridabad in Haryana for objecting to people bursting firecrackers in his locality late in the night.

As per the complaint lodged by the victim’s son, Vinod, one of their neighbours and his friends committed the crime when his father Balachand Rai raised objections to their bursting crackers in the city’s Sector 18 on late Diwali night.

A verbal spat ensued and later the elderly man was thrashed by the accused, identified as Raju, Dheeraj and Nandu. Rai was immediately rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Vinod and his wife were also attacked by the three men when they tried to intervene, the complaint said.

The victim’s wife also accused the police of negligence, saying that upon receiving an alert, three police teams reached the spot, but instead of taking action, they argued over the jurisdiction. After the incident, a case was registered against the accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and police teams were constituted for their arrest.

Speaking on the issue, the public relations officer (PRO) of the Faridabad Police, Yashpal Singh, said, “A case has been registered against the accused and efforts are underway for their arrest. We are also probing the allegations of negligence by police teams and suitable action will be taken after that.”

In another incident in Faridabad, a family bursting firecrackers on Diwali day was allegedly attacked with sticks and stones in Ballabhgarh locality. Police have registered a case and have started an investigation into the matter.
