NEW DELHI, Mar 22: The Election Commission of India has imposed a ban on taking out bike rallies 72 hours before the polling day till the end of polling in all the constituencies in four states and the union territory of Puducherry going to polls in April-May. The four states going to the polls included Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

According to an official spokesman, the decision was taken after the ECI received complaints that in some places bikes are used by some antisocial elements to intimidate the voters before the poll day and on poll day.

“The Commission has considered the complaints and decided to ban bike rallies,” the spokesman said.

Instructions in this regard have been issued to the Chief Electoral Officers of the poll bound states/UT, the spokesman said.
