NEW DELHI, Oct 10: The Election Commission of India has allocated Shivsena Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray name to the party of Thackeray faction of the Shiv Sena and accepted “Mashaal” (Torch) as its symbol, the ECI announced on Monday evening.

The faction led by the Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde will be called Balasahebachi Shivsena (Balasaheb’s Shivsena) but is yet to be allocated the party symbol as ECI has asked the party to provide three fresh options. Its earlier choices the gada (blunt mace) and the trishul (trident) were rejected by ECI as they were religious symbols.
