
Trivial use of plastic in campaign: EC announcing the poll dates
New Delhi: Election Commission addressing the press conference said, in Maharashtra and Haryana, the notification will be issued on September 27, the last date of nominations would be October 4, polling will be held on October 21 while counting will take place on October 24.
Stressing on the use of eco-friendly materials in the campaign, Sunil Arora, Chief Election Commissioner said, “There is Rs 28 lakh-cap on poll expense on each candidate. We appeal the candidates to use environment-friendly materials. We reassure all the stakeholders about the quality of electronic voting machines”.
While the term of 288-member Maharashtra assembly ends on November 9, and that of the 90-member Haryana assembly expires on November 2, the Model Code of Conduct will come in to force soon.
According to the EC sources, the notifications for polls to Haryana and Maharashtra will come first, while the dates for 81- member Jharkhand Assembly elections will be announced later, as it may involve several phases due to the left-wing extremism threat and deployment of extra forces.
In 2014, Jharkhand voted in five phases between November 25 and December 20 and results were announced later in December.
