New Delhi: The Indian tennis player Sania Mirza and her Czech Republic partner Lucie Hradecka advanced to the women’s doubles quarterfinals of the Dubai Tennis Championships on Wednesday, February 16, 2022.
The Sania Mirza-Lucie Hradecka pair defeated the World Number 12 Demi Schuurs of the Netherlands and Chan Hao-ching of Chinese Taipei by 7-6 (3), 5-7, and 11-9 points in the round of 16 match.
The Indo-Czech pair broke Schuurs and Hao-Ching for an early 3-1 lead in the opening set. Though the opponents recovered and charged for a close finish, Mirza and Hradecka held their serves and pushed the set into a tiebreaker. Sania-Lucie won by a close margin with 7-6(3) points.
The Netherland-Taipei pair returned stronger in the second set. They clichéd the set and stretched the match into a deuce. The pair won with next set with 7-5 points. However, the Indian-Czech duo eventually won the super tiebreaker of set three and booked their place in the quarterfinals.
Mirza and Hradecka will face Shuko Aoyama of Japan and Aleksandra Krunic of Sebia in the doubles quarterfinals.
